Kenyan agricultural company Kakuzi will begin harvesting and importing Hass avocados for export to China as well as Europe in the middle of next month, to ensure quality. It is the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) via the Horticultural Crops Directorate (HCD) has announced that the 2023 harvesting season for avocados officially started on the 24th March 2023. The agency also warned farmers to avoid harvesting the immature fruits.
Kakuzi Plc Managing Director Chris Flowers has said that the company’s recent tests on maturity confirm that the company’s currently crop that is grown in its Makuyu orchard located in Murang’a County has yet to meet the maturity requirements as well as the quality requirements to be suitable for international export.
