Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong’s largest airline. Pacific’s accomplished air-cargo director Shuichi Ueba is in his 35th year at Cathay Pacific and has witnessed the whole spectrum. In his role as the Regional Head for Cargo to Japan and Korea the man is in charge of shipping fresh fruit and vegetables to Japan as well as South Korea and the rest of the region.
Fresh fruit is much of the 20 each week Cathay Cargo freighters to and from Japan. It imports high-quality fruit to be consumed in its own country but has less farmers growing fruits. Korea however exports lots of perishables including fruits in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia by air.
The pilot also makes sure that passengers’ planes are loaded with food items as well as various other exports and imports.
